This poem is rather confusing because of the way the author says things. In the lines "My black face fades, hiding inside the black granite", the author is trying to say, that when he sees or thinks about the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, he feels that he's there in the war once again. That reminds him and makes him feel guilty for not saving his partner Andrew Johnson.
In the lines "In the mirror a woman's trying to erase names: No she's brushing a boys hair", it's like if the black mirror was the black granite. That means that a woman is erasing his name from the Memorial as a symbol trying to revive him. That person could be his son because if she's brushing the boy's hair, it may be so. Finally, there's something certain, that he simply won't let go of the past.
